Message from the Board of Directors
An artist expresses life through art and art expresses culture. Wayward Pen's goal is to open a door for contemporary Slovenian and other European art. Slovenia has never had such an organization in the United States of America, and as a young democratic state it needs to establish democratic treatment of culture which will result in quality and exchange of ideas on a global scale and become prerequisites for success in our cultivation of unity.
Wayward Pen has created a brand new platform for the Slovenian community, which will also be providing to the artist himself as an assistance, resource and contact in the United States, operating manly in New York area.
The main focus for the first few years of our young organization will be literary education and exchange of cultural dialogue. We will arrange annual readings of literature and plays and organize small concerts, while theatre will be at the forefront of our activity, towards achieving a sustainable level. From project to project, we will expand our activities into other areas such as galleries, screenings and workshops for translations or adaptations of Slovenian texts, as well as participation in different festivals.
Slovenia and Eastern Europe hold vast treasuries of high art that has yet to be introduced to American audiences and Eastern European artists need the support of our organization just as much as the American cultural milieu is in need of their contributions. We hope you share our vision for the cultural exchange we can bring and that you can find it in your heart to support our cause.
